Sefer Torah Introduction

Introduction of a new Sefer Torah into a synagogue is done in a ceremony known as Hachnasat Sefer Torah, accompanied by celebratory dancing, singing, and a festive meal. This is a very ancient celebration and a tremendous merit to write (or commission writing of) a Sefer Torah, and a significant honor to have a Sefer Torah written in one’s honor or memory.

This event, held in Haifa, was extremely special, since this Sefer Torah was dedicated to an IDF captain, killed on Yom Kippur war (1973). Soldiers from his unit came to share their respect along with distinguished Rabbis, family, friends and the synagogue’s congregation.
